Outdoor Wedding Spaces
The Indigo House is a newly constructed bed & breakfast that sits on five acres and offers scenic gathering spaces for elopements and micro weddings outside of Charlottesville, Virginia. We help you create an inclusive and intimate celebration that feels natural. We invite you to start your next great adventure nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Affectionately named and completely inspired by the enchanting woodsy weddings in Sequoia National Park, “Little Sequoia” was designed for the majestic I do. It is about 40×20 feet and easily seats 50 people in rows. The ground is covered with premium mulch. The ceremony location comes with pre-strung bistro lights.
Our favorite part: The golden rays of the sunset as they dance through the trees, set the most romantic light for evening ceremonies.

The Meadow is ideal for couples who desire stunning mountain views as their ceremony backdrop. This area is closest to the home and features afternoon shade, sweet romance, and seasonal wildflowers. Ceremonies of up to 50 people can be held on the level gravel space or in the adjoining field.
Our favorite part: This picture-perfect setting shines all year long and almost always has a breeze.
The Property
Nestled in the heart of Nelson County — just 30 minutes from Charlottesville, Virginia — the home comes stocked with all the essential items for an enjoyable stay, including some beloved, fresh mountain air.
There are private and semi-private spaces for both wedding parties to relax in. The Zion room has ample natural light, a spacious closet with wooden hangers, and a double vanity. There’s a dark and moody multi-purpose room upstairs with vaulted ceilings, perfect for preparing decorations or as another space to get ready in.
We have two living rooms, a beautiful kitchen, plenty of outdoor patio space (including a fire pit), and a private trail. The Shenandoah room offers ground-floor access to a hallway bath for your guests.
Each of our four national park-inspired guestrooms is thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind to include a premium mattress, eco-friendly bedding, heating and air conditioning, an ensuite bathroom, and a flat-screen television. The house sleeps eight adults.
With the Micro Wedding package, you have private access to the full five-acre property.

Meet the Owners
Married after dating long distance for almost three years, Stephanie and Kyle have a deep appreciation for gathering loved ones on a wedding weekend.
We opened the Indigo House with a vision to bring people together. Often — at least this was the case for us — it’s the only time all your favorite people will be in the same place! Stephanie helps you select a space that is inviting and comfortable, the perfect backdrop for your celebration weekend. She can also plan a fun bachelorette weekend prior to your wedding, a private chef for your event, or a custom itinerary for your visiting guests. Let us help you hike and gather with those you love!
Our steps to sustainability
By staying at the Indigo, you take part in our mission to honor and preserve the surrounding land. Connecting with nature makes us all a bit happier. See how we’re striving to reduce our impact on the planet.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the property look like?
Most of the five-acre property is wooded. We have a couple of spots you can set up the tent. There are two locations perfect for a food truck or catering station.
Do I have to have a wedding planner?
For weddings with over 20 guests, we kindly request you hire a licensed and insured coordinator for your wedding day. This ensures things go smoothly and you and your fiancé can relax instead of field vendor questions and make table settings.
Prior to your wedding, we bring the coordinator onsite to show them what to do in case of emergency, discuss all the underground utility lines, and review back up options for parking. Additionally, they can connect you with local vendors, help you formulate your vision, and make sure the day goes off without a hitch. It really is a win-win!
How long do we get the property for?
Couples typically book Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday. Check-in is at 12 noon on the day of arrival. Check-out is at 12 noon on the day of departure. We ask that you have everything cleaned up to the condition you found it in before leaving.
Want to make the most of a long weekend? Additional days can be added to your package for an additional cost (example: Friday-Monday for a holiday wedding weekend).
Why do we have to rent a tent?
In preparation for unexpected weather, you’re required to rent a tent. Using any permanent structure, like the house, is not permissible as a backup plan due to county regulations.
Are there any house rules we need to follow?
To enhance the stay for all guests, there are a few guidelines…
- You can check in on Friday at 12 Noon. Check-out is Sunday at 12 Noon and exterior clean-up should be completed by 4 pm.
- No smoking or vaping is allowed inside or outside. If evidence of smoking is found, you’re subject to a $500 fine.
- Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 8 am.
- Dogs stay for free, but they’re not allowed in the dining room or kitchen.
Do I have to get insurance?
We do require couples to purchase liability wedding insurance and provide proof of insurance from all vendors one week prior to the event. This isn’t as expensive or scary as it sounds! Most likely, your vendors will already have coverage.
The Indigo House must be listed on your policy for up to $1M. WedSafe makes this super easy.
What kind of hotels are near you?
If your guests are loyal to their hotel rewards points, the closest options are in Waynesboro and Charlottesville. Otherwise, there are plenty of home rentals and boutique stays close by. Check them out.
Where does everyone park?
We have a small parking lot that fits up to eight cars. Up to 20 cars can park parallel down the driveway. Overflow parking can be arranged across the street prior to your event for an additional fee.
Do we have access to the kitchen? Where can we store ice?
You have access to the kitchen! We will clear out the residential fridge/freezer and you can store anything needed. Some couples opt for a self-serve bar with heavy duty coolers and ice outside.
Where is the closest place to get supplies?
Less than 10 minutes away, we have an IGA grocery and liquor store for emergency snacks, ice, firewood, and more. There is a Dollar General and hardware store within 10 minutes too.
Do we need to provide lighting? What access to power is there?
We recommend you rent lighting with your tent. We have extension cords and candles with vases you can borrow for your event. Power is conveniently located around the perimeter of the house.
Are there any restrictions for a sendoff? Sparklers? Glitter?
We love a good sendoff! If the fire danger risk is low, you can use sparklers. They must be extinguished and picked up.
If you want to toss any material, we ask it to be biodegradable (birdseed, petals, etc).
