Spring is a beautiful (and our personal favorite) time of year to explore the greater Charlottesville and Nelson County areas! The trails in Shenandoah National Park are turning lush and green, with wildflowers like phlox, buttercups, and trillium blooming. The evenings are still cool enough to wear a sweatshirt by the fire, while the afternoons are warm enough to be bathed by the sun at an outdoor, award-winning winery. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or an outdoorsy solo trip, the Indigo House is the ideal base camp for a perfect spring weekend near Charlottesville, Virginia!

A Perfect Spring Weekend for Wine Tasting

Welcome to the birthplace of American wine!! Virginia wine dates back to the days of Thomas Jefferson, who dreamed all things grapevine at Monticello, his mountaintop estate. Then, starting in the 1970s, winemakers experimented with various grapes to discover what grows best in our difficult terroir. Since then, our local winemakers have transformed the region into a premiere wine destination, bringing us the title of Wine Region of the Year in 2023!
