What’s there to do when it’s cold and rainy?

We planned our weekend getaway but the weather just isn’t cooperating. That stinks because there are so many fun outdoor venues to explore in Afton, VA.

So what should I do when the weather takes a turn and I cannot explore the great outdoors?

Sometimes you just have to switch gears a bit…

The weather changes across the valley. If it is raining near the Indigo, you may consider exploring the other side of town. The Monticello Wine Trail is a great resource to find new vineyards.

There are great antique shops to explore:

  • Greenwood Antiques
  • Rockfish Gap County Store
  • Tuckahoe Antiques
  • The Factory Antique Mall

If you want to stay local, hike the Blue Ridge Tunnel trail. The majority of the path is covered by the newly restored tunnel. Just bring a coat and a flashlight!

Here are some of our favorites places close by that allow dogs inside:

  • Flying Fox
  • Brewing Tree
  • Cardinal Point
  • Silverback Distillery
  • Hill Top Meadery & Winery

Of course, downtown Charlottesville is always available to you. I love grabbing cake slices from Cake Bloom, dinner from Oakhart Social, and drinks from Public. Milli Coffee Roasters, Kardinal Hall, and the Dairy Market are great to pop into while you wait for a storm to blow over.
