Here at the Indigo, we’re committed to gathering more – more stories, people, moments, and memories. That’s why we’ve gathered insights, recommendations, and pictures from previous micro weddings (2024 and 2025). Whether you’re looking for ideas for your upcoming wedding or advice from past Indigo couples, you’ve come to the right place!
Micaela & Adrian

Micaela and Adrian had the sweetest ceremony, surrounded by loved ones, beautiful florals from Horse and Hen and the tastiest funfetti cake with edible dried florals from Cake Bloom. Marla crafted the most heartfelt, celestial themed ceremony + vows and I don’t think there was a dry eye in the woods. Love is love and they had it in spades on a Wednesday night.
I enjoy all of our weddings but this one, this couple and their story really put unconditional love on display in the most heartfelt and moving way. To be seen and known by someone—to be loved for who you are today and who you will become—it’s a treasure to not be taken for granted. It’s what we all want, what we all search for. And they found it. So on the first warm day of the year, they made vows and started their next adventure here at the Indigo. I can’t wait to celebrate with them in years to come.

Katie & Joey

When two families joined as one on a beautiful day in April, the main goal was to have fun.. and make sure the kids had fun too. After a morning ceremony, the newlyweds gathered with friends and family for brunch. Everyone took the afternoon to explore the area and then gathered by the fire for the evening.
The Indigo attracted them because of the low-key vibes, lodging, and approachable price point. Because they love fly fishing, antique shopping, beer and wine tastings, and live music, the area surrounding the Indigo House was the perfect destination for them and their loved ones. They even snuck away to an antique market after their reception!
After the wedding, Katie said, “My tip would be, #1. Book the Indigo House and #2. Remember what is most important to you and what you want to take away from your wedding day and keep that a priority. For us, that was sharing one of the most exciting days of our lives with our immediate families and being present in the moment. Because that was the goal, I was able to let go of the things that you’d typically find yourself getting hung up on in wedding planning. Keeping things simple, and being able to ask for help/asking someone to take over a certain responsibility all together, helped me relax and be present with our family. It was truly a perfect weekend and a perfect wedding at the perfect property!”

Susie & John

The first time Susie and John saw the Indigo wasn’t during an official wedding tour, but on a quiet weekday getaway with their dog, Lucy. The peaceful environment and beauty of the area spoke to them and they knew they wanted to plan an intimate wedding ceremony the following year.
For their adventure elopement on the Blue Ridge Parkway, they had to juggle hectic travel schedules for work, family dynamics, and determining what was most important to them. Ultimately, they wanted to trade the stress of wedding planning for something more natural and enjoyable.
Susie brought her long-time friend and stylist to do her hair and make-up in the morning. John and Lucy went for a hike after breakfast. They had their first look as a family of three in the woods and Lucy was so excited to see Susie! Just before the ceremony, John surprised Susie by arranging for her parents to join them. After exchanging vows at Raven’s Roost, the newlyweds returned to the Indigo for a romantic dinner with a private chef. As the sun set, they danced in the yard, surrounded by fireflies and twinkling stars.
“Thank you so much for making this as seamless of a process as possible!”

Angie & Jim

When your wedding is the first time your families meet, the pressure to make memories can be at an all-time high. Thankfully, when this couple booked a weekend wedding at the Indigo, they looked forward to low-key vibes and quality time with their favorite people (and their dogs).
If Angie and Jim aren’t outside, you might find them going for a mead tasting, camping, playing games, or antique shopping. All of this inspired their whimsical wedding. Angie was looking to bring a fairytale-esque vision to life in an environment that was casual and dog-friendly. After the wedding, she said, “We and our pups loved every moment… whether it was relaxing on the porch listening to the birds, walking down the aisle surrounded by greenery and speckled sunlight shining through the trees, or feasting on s’mores around the campfire with our guests. After our wedding, so many of our guests told us what a wonderful time they had had. The Indigo House is truly a special place.”

John & Alex

When John and Alex first reached out about a wedding at the Indigo, we discussed a very small ceremony in the mountains. It was a special location for them because of where they first met! They have fond memories of sunny Saturdays spent on 151, and getting married in the same area added a personal touch to the celebration.
But unfortunately, during the planning process, their families received some heartbreaking news and the wedding reception became even more meaningful and important. So we shifted gears a bit. Alex and John had a sunrise elopement off the Blue Ridge Parkway, where they exchanged vows privately, surrounded by the peaceful beauty of nature (despite nature hiding behind low-lying clouds and a steady drizzle).
Then, their friends and family decorated tables and heated food, while the newlyweds had a private indoor picnic. About mid-morning, they all gathered for a brunch reception full of love and celebration. Even the poor weather couldn’t dampen the joy of this day.

Sarah & Dan

Most of our couples plan their Indigo weddings long distance, but this wedding was extra special because Sarah and Dan live in the next town over! It was such a treat to see the fun activities they planned for their wedding weekend, including an after-party on Sunday at our local winery, which hosts polo matches!
While this was a micro wedding, the couple really maxed out special touches and details to make the event extra special. From decor to music, each element was thoughtfully planned and executed to create a relaxing and fun wedding!
Sarah was so kind when she said, “We had the most incredible experience at The Indigo House. It was the perfect place for our 40-person micro-wedding. Peaceful, scenic, and beautifully laid out for spending time with the special people (and pets!) we love most. Stephanie and Kyle were fantastic to work with. They were thoughtful, responsive, and genuinely invested in making our wedding day special and run smoothly. Having the freedom to use the property and event supplies however we wanted made it feel like a personal weekend getaway and not a one-size-fits-all event. It was everything we hoped for and more!”

Juliana & Cory

I can’t say it better than Juliana did in her own caption, so here’s a recap of her wedding, in her own terms.
“After nearly nine years together, Cory & I finally had our micro wedding last weekend. And while not everything went according to plan (thank you, summer lightning storms), it was still so deeply beautiful.
The vision was Pride & Prejudice meets Lord of the Rings. Romantic, natural, a little moody, a little magical.
We had to flip the timeline, delay the ceremony, and wait out the storm. But our vendor team did an amazing job flipping the order of events & keeping the party going. I’m endlessly grateful for how supported we felt all day.
Because Cory & I were already legally married, it took away the pressure to make the day “perfect.” My brother, Austin, even officiated the ceremony. Our only goal was to celebrate with the people we love and be fully present. And that part was everything.
This year also marks ten years since my dad passed, so it was an emotional day for all of us. He was a musician, and one of my favorite moments was a family dance to a recording of him singing. He was absolutely there in spirit, along with so many grandparents and great-grandparents we honored.
What made it all even more meaningful is that this was our second attempt at a wedding. Our original date last fall was canceled because of Hurricane Helene flooding everything in Western North Carolina. So we planned everything again in just eight months and brought the vision to life in the mountains of Virginia.
We even ended the night with our group of friends playing Cards Against Humanity. I’m so grateful for our friends and family and the support we had the day of.
I even made the table numbers using my new branding from @bellamavenstudio and we walked down the aisle to live musicians playing Concerning Hobbits.”

Shannon & Eric

Excited about the prospect of a backyard wedding and BBQ, Shannon and Eric planned a wonderful weekend – and thanks to their moms – didn’t overlook a single detail despite moving across the country, starting new jobs, and of course, planning a wedding.
When I asked Shannon for her key to stress management, she said, “Delegation is so important, and relying on friends and family who want to help. It helped us enjoy the day a lot more. We picked a couple of things related to the day that we really cared about and then let the wedding planner and our family (particularly my mother) make the rest of the decisions and plan logistics. It was hard to give up some of that control at first, but once we did, life was a lot more enjoyable.”
Shannon and Eric took pictures in Shenandoah National Park before their ceremony. Then, they re-joined their loved ones to exchange vows, take family pictures, and celebrate with a BBQ dinner under the tent. Yard games kept the kids (and adults!) entertained. My favorite detail of their wedding was their guest book- A recipe box to collect family favorites and soon-to-be kitchen staples.

When your number one wedding priority is to include your dog in an intimate setting with your friends and family, then you’ve found the right spot at the Indigo.
Courtney and Nathan love being active with their dogs and an outdoor wedding felt like the right way to incorporate all their interests. They loved our price point, lodging, low-key vibes, mountain and wooded views, and total control to make the weekend just the way they wanted it.
It was the sweetest day for two best friends to get married and enjoy an incredible meal with wine pairing.

Jordan & Caleb

As two teachers with busy lives, Jordan and Caleb’s number one goal was to have a small ceremony for their family and friends to kick off their summer break. After an early check-in, their guests arrived for an intimate ceremony in the woods. Jordan and Caleb had their first look and personal vows in the field and then joined their pup of honor to walk down the aisle together as a family. After the ceremony, they toasted with local hard cider and then took their wedding cake to enjoy at Bold Rock after they ate dinner.

Michelle & Hayden

Planning a backyard wedding for less than 20 people (and two very cute dogs) may sound simple, but it is planning a wedding after all! We loved how Michelle and Hayden personalized their intimate backyard wedding with wildflowers, close family and friends, and lots of love.
After getting ready at the Indigo, they held an evening ceremony in the woods. My favorite detail (besides her wildflower veil) was their ring-warming ceremony. After a family-style meal, they gathered under the moon for a relaxing night by the fire.
“We want to thank you for your incredible house. It was exactly what we wanted and needed and we’re so grateful you helped us out every part of the way. Overall, our experience was so easy. We never felt pressured and we knew the weekend would go exactly how we wanted it to go. [The Indigo House] had so much more than we ever asked for and it made our wedding so much more special.”

Dariel & Jessica

Dariel and Jessica love to hike and explore in their free time so an adventure elopement felt like a natural choice. They held a destination adventure elopement with their parents and planned a huge party to celebrate with friends and family a little closer to home the following week.
The key to their success? Dariel said, “Get all the family on the same page.” Some members stayed near the Indigo and some stayed on-site so they could get ready together. The couple said coffee in bed on their wedding day was one of their favorite parts. To have that time in peace and relaxation helped to set them up for the rest of the busy day!
After a moment alone, their photographer joined them to capture all the special moments of their wedding morning, which included gift exchanges, getting ready, and leaving with their parents.
Adventure elopements are especially subject to nature. On this particular August evening, storms were forecasted to roll in just before their ceremony. Thankfully, they held off for the ceremony and we relocated their cake-cutting from outside to the indoor lounge. “Planning is going to go wrong somewhere. A lot of the time, those things happen out of your control. Breathe! Everything is going to be perfect!” Dariel said.

Makayla & Ben

Working with Makayla and Ben was such a sweet reminder of how joyful weddings are. Yes, of course, there were moments of stress while planning — I remember Makayla sharing frustration when vendors asked her lots of questions and her response was “I don’t know. I’ve never planned a wedding before!” — but there were also lots of joyful moments, like a first look in the wildflower field, getting ready with their dogs, and dancing into the evening surrounded by loved ones (and delicious ice cream). Besides getting married, they were most excited to have their best friends stay at the Indigo with them the night before their wedding.
“Ben and I, our pups, family, and friends had the dreamiest wedding weekend at the Indigo House. We wish the weekend never had to end; it was so relaxing and beautiful. We’ll be back for years to come!”

Tara & Tyler

Getting married during hurricane season offers a special kind of unpredictability. Friday was perfect weather for their rehearsal and rehearsal dinner but things turned dicey on Saturday night, right in the middle of the reception. Thankfully, this couple (with the assistance of their planner and a few iterations of floor plans and timelines) handled all the twists and turns with flexibility and ease.
Despite all of this, the bride said, “It was the most magical weekend. The Indigo House is amazing… The house and the scenery are absolutely gorgeous and it provides an incredible space to host all of your favorite people! We will never forget what a special weekend we had at the Indigo House and we will definitely be back for anniversary trips with our pup!”

Rainy Day Plan

Maura & Colton

When I asked this couple what they were most excited about for their wedding weekend, it was a quick response, “Brunch!”
Surrounded by their beloved friends and family (and delicious brunch food), Maura and Colton celebrated their commitment. They were attracted to the Indigo for our low-key vibes, lodging, and total control to make the event what they wanted. Their guests loved staying at the house, even saying the property made their day perfect.
But don’t take our word for it. From the groom, “10/10 I would absolutely recommend everyone we know to have a wedding here or just stay here in general. It was one of the best days of my life, and a large part of that magic was due to the estate. Our accommodations were absolutely splendid, the rooms were comfortable and incredibly well-kept. The owners were amazing, very kind, and truly helpful. The Indigo House had a large part in making our day perfect.”

Julie & Raleigh

When Julie and Raleigh first visited the Indigo, I asked them how wedding planning was going. With hesitation and darting eyes, they looked at me and responded, “It’s not. We’ve been NOT planning the wedding for years now.” But something about the Indigo drew them in and inspired their perfect backyard wedding, an experience that pleased even their most skeptical guests.
From the bride, “I honestly can’t think of much I would do differently. It worked super well to have the house the night before the wedding for a welcome dinner. I’m glad we decided to have it there instead of going to a nearby brewery. It was a chance for our closest family/friends to see the beautiful house on the inside and just relax by the fire outside. We got Paulie’s Pig Out and it was delicious! On the day of, it worked perfectly to have the girls get ready upstairs. Then, for our first look, Raleigh came upstairs and we were able to have a private moment while everyone else was downstairs… The covered porch worked great as an area to dance with the DJ set up. We ended up coming through the door to the covered porch for our announcement as a married couple, and did our first dance in the gravel area while everyone else was seated at their respective dinner seat. It was an excellent weekend!”

Ella & Daniel

Sometimes, the perk of going small is that you can also go big. That’s exactly what this couple had in mind. More specifically, Ella planned on “Keeping it small with high-quality details.” And let me tell you, the vision delivered.
Ella and Daniel love being outside, camping, and exploring new places — incorporating nature into their wedding was important. They also wanted an environment where all their friends felt safe and welcome — buying out the property and hand-selecting their vendor team ensured a loving and supportive atmosphere.
To get around the inconvenience of hiring an officiant, Ella and Daniel married at a courthouse prior to their Indigo ceremony. The wedding weekend kicked off on Friday night at Three Notch’d (the couple rented a cabana). On the morning of their ceremony, Daniel joined some friends for a hike and Ella went to the salon to get her hair and makeup done.
Guests were welcomed with apple cider donuts. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed mocktails, appetizers, and lawn games while the couple snuck away to Raven’s Roost for portraits and private vow readings. A family-style dinner, cake, and s’mores sweetened the gathering even more.
Our favorite detail is Ella’s custom dress (and we have to give an extra shout-out to the family friend who grew pumpkins for the couple’s decorations).

Taylor & Caleb

As a busy nurse, The Indigo House ticked off all the boxes for Taylor: dog-friendly, affordable, customizable, low-key, and convenient. This mattered even more as life for the couple got busy and they recruited family members to help bring the vision to life.
Their wedding weekend kicked off with a rehearsal luncheon at Blue Mountain Brewery on Saturday with the ceremony and reception — which hosted about 35 people — on Sunday afternoon. During cocktail hour, held on the side lawn, the bride and groom took photos in the woods. After the blessing, everyone enjoyed toasts and a family-style dinner. The event wrapped up around 7 pm, with those staying at the Indigo enjoying the rest of the night by the fire pit.

Cristine & Chris

We love how couples design weddings to accommodate their friends and family, but when they plan the day around their dog, it gives us a little extra joy. That’s exactly what we designed the space for! The dog-friendly property and beautiful mountain and wooded views first attracted Chris and Cristine to the Indigo, but we were so glad that the last of the fall colors hung onto the trees for them. It was a beautiful payoff for this mid-November wedding!
This couple, along with their pup Cora, loves being outside and trying new breweries, wineries, and foods. Their top priority was designing a wedding weekend that balanced a local destination with amazing food and beverages, which they accomplished perfectly, thanks to their vision and team of experts.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. Here’s Cristine’s point of view:
“The Indigo House was the perfect venue for our micro-wedding! It offered a relaxed, intimate setting. We opted for the property buyout from Friday to Monday, which was one of our best decisions. It allowed us to spend extra time with our guests before the big day. The property was beautiful, clean, and comfortable, with four spacious bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom. It was also very dog-friendly, with amenities like dog bowls, towels, a doggie first aid kit, and multiple dog beds.
The Indigo House created the perfect atmosphere for our celebration, and we all had a blast. Some of our friends even expressed that they’d wished they’d had a wedding like ours! We are so grateful for the memories and can’t recommend this venue enough.”

Val & Eric

When we met this couple, they wanted a fast and easy wedding. They weren’t interested in calling a lot of vendors, getting a bunch of quotes, or spending lots of hours planning. That’s exactly why we brought in a dream team to execute their wedding. They booked and hosted it in less than two months!
To keep things easy, Val & Eric got married at the courthouse before their wedding at the Indigo House. Val’s brother led the ceremony, which included a beautiful tree-planting ritual. They had 10 guests join them for dinner (tapas and a tiramisu cake), a champagne toast, and family pictures. After, they went to a brewery for an after party! Our favorite details included pictures of their cats as well as their baby books. Guests loved looking at them while the couple took pictures around the property.
“Stephanie and Kyle exceeded our expectations at the Indigo House! They were patient, had great communication, had exceptional customer service, and made our wedding day extra special. We appreciated the attention to detail and their kindness and support throughout the process. The wedding was perfect for us and was stress-free thanks to their help. We would highly recommend the Indigo House to anyone looking for a smaller, personalized venue for their wedding.”

Sometimes, it’s about you and sometimes… It’s about the dogs. I love how this couple planned such a fun celebration with their dogs by their sides every step of the way. Ashley, a crafter and DIY-er, made so many of the little touches and details that decorated their big day. With a ceremony in the meadow and an evening of pizza, s’mores, cake, and apple cider doughnuts, guests were able to kick back and relax while celebrating in style. Our favorite part, dog-centric details like cups with the tagline “Drinks on us”!
When we asked Ashley about the event, she said, “First and foremost, I want to express my heartfelt THANK YOU for letting us host our wedding at your home. Everything was incredible and surpassed our wildest dreams. The house was absolutely perfect, and everyone adored it, there were so many compliments on its design and the property ([Our dogs] Goose and Bo loved the walking trail).
